To operate effectively, the FLEXECHARGE GATEWAY requires a stable internet connection for cloud communication, remote monitoring, and software updates. You can choose between two main internet access options, depending on your site’s infrastructure and preferences.
Irrespective of the option you choose, please note the following:
- WebSocket reliability: A strong connection is especially critical for WebSocket-based communication, which requires low-latency, uninterrupted connectivity to maintain real-time data flows between the GATEWAY and the cloud platform.
- Customer responsibility: FLEXECHARGE is not responsible for system performance issues caused by poor or unstable internet connections.
Option 1: Default Configuration - GATEWAY as DHCP Server with SIM Card
How it works
In the default setup, the GATEWAY functions as its own DHCP server and connects to the internet using a mobile data SIM card. You simply insert your own SIM card into the GATEWAY, and it will handle IP assignment and connectivity.
Benefits
- Plug-and-play setup: Minimal configuration is needed.
- Full control: Ideal for locations without existing network infrastructure or lab/field testing.
- Isolated network: Charging infrastructure operates independently of your main site network.
Limitations & Requirements
- Mobile signal strength matters: For stable operations, a minimum signal strength of 80% is required. Poor signal quality may lead to service interruptions or degraded system performance.
- Signal enforcement: We recommend proactively verifying mobile signal quality at all installation sites. One effective method is to intentionally weaken the signal (e.g. shielding or using distance) during testing to ensure that even under less-than-ideal conditions, the signal remains consistently above 80%.
- GSM Antennas: FLEXECHARGE offers high-performance GSM antennas to boost connectivity at any site.
Option 2: Alternative Configuration – Use a Separate Router with Fixed IP
How it works
In this setup, the GATEWAY connects to an existing router or LAN. You must configure the GATEWAY’s network settings manually by assigning a fixed IP address that matches your network. We recommend changing network settings always in advance to avoid networking-related delays on the day of the on-site installation and commissioning.
Benefits
- Use existing infrastructure: Connect the GATEWAY to your building’s internet for potentially more stable and higher-speed access. Make sure to apply the firewall settings to ensure smooth data traffic between GATEWAY and HARMON-E.
- Centralized management: Network security and monitoring can be handled by your IT team.
Limitations
- Manual configuration required: Fixed IP setup requires additional steps and coordination with your network administrator prior to the installation date.
- Dependency on external systems: The GATEWAY’s connectivity depends on the stability of your on-site network and the firewall settings of your building's internet. Changes to the firewalls can disrupt HARMON-E cloud services.
Summary
| Configuration | Internet Source | Setup Type | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Default (DHCP + SIM) | SIM card (mobile data) | Plug-and-play | Sites with no existing network |
| Fixed IP via Router | Local LAN/Router | Manual | Sites with dedicated IT infrastructure |
