This guide describes how to install the GATEWAY in a setup where Internet access is provided by the GATEWAY’s internal router using a SIM card.
- Installation must be carried out only by a qualified electrician.
- Disconnect all live circuits before working on the installation.
- Ensure that all wiring complies with local electrical standards and regulations.
High-level takeaways
- This is the default setup of the GATEWAY (GATEWAY provides Internet access via SIM).
- You must provide your own SIM card with data service enabled.
Package Contents and Required Material
| 📦 Scope of Delivery | 👷 Material provided by the electrician |
|---|---|
| GATEWAY (with integrated DIN-rail adapter) | Cables for connecting the power supply to the GATEWAY 230 V AC side: 2.5 mm² or 1.5 mm² 24 V DC output: 1.5 mm² or 0.75 mm² |
| Power Supply Unit: Phoenix Contact UNO-PS/1AC/24DC/60W |
Ethernet cable (CAT5e or higher) for connecting the GATEWAY to the LAN switch |
| – | LAN switch (network infrastructure) |
| – | Standard electrical installation tools (screwdrivers, wire stripper, network tester, etc.) |
Cable Color Recommendations
Electricians must follow the wiring color standards applicable in their country.
Example for Germany:
-
230 V AC:
- 🟤 Brown = Live (L)
- 🔵 Blue = Neutral (N)
-
24 V DC:
- 🔴 Red = +24 V
- ⚫ Black = 0 V
Requirements Before Starting
- You have a SIM card in the Mini-SIM (2FF) form factor.
- You know the APN settings (and optional username/password) from your SIM provider.
- You have verified that there is no SIM lock or device lock active on this SIM.
This installation guide covers only the physical installation of the GATEWAY. APN and network configuration will be completed in the separate Configuration Manual for GATEWAY Setup. Have your SIM and APN details ready for that step.
To configure the GATEWAY later
- You have a laptop with an Ethernet port and a modern browser (Google Chrome recommended).
- You have an Ethernet cable for direct connection to the GATEWAY.
- Ensure that no other Internet connection is present in the temporary LAN used for configuration.
1. Install the power supply
Install the DIN-rail power supply according to the manufacturer’s specifications.
2. Mount the antenna
Attach the cellular antenna to the connector labelled GSM on the GATEWAY.
If using an antenna that also provides GPS, connect the second SMA connector to the GPS port.
3. Insert the SIM card
On the back of the GATEWAY there are two SIM slots and one microSD slot:
- SIM 1 (upper slot): Mini-SIM (2FF)
- SIM 2 (lower slot): Micro-SIM (3FF)
Only the Mini-SIM (2FF) in the SIM 1 (upper) slot is supported. Always use SIM 1 by default.
Insert the SIM card into SIM 1 until it clicks into place. If necessary, use a flat, non-sharp tool (e.g., a small screwdriver) to gently push it in.
4. Connect the Power Supply
Connect the 24 V DC output of the power supply to the terminals labelled + and -.
230 V AC Input
- Use the appropriate cable cross-sections (2.5 mm² or 1.5 mm²).
- Follow the local wire color standards.
24 V DC Output to the GATEWAY
- Cable cross-section: 1.5 mm² or 0.75 mm².
-
Observe polarity:
- 🔴 Red = +24 V
- ⚫ Black = 0 V
The GATEWAY has reverse polarity protection, but it will not power on if polarity is incorrect.
5. Check the network status
After powering on, the GATEWAY performs an initialization sequence (approx. 5 seconds):
- LED A and LED B turn on briefly.
- Power LED stays solid.
- LED A + B turn off when the system is ready.
Check the GSM status LED:
| GSM Status LED | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Slow blinking (short ON / long OFF) | 🔎 Searching for network |
| Slow blinking (long ON / short OFF) | ⛔ Registered, but no active data connection |
| Fast blinking (short ON / short OFF) | ✅ Registered with active data connection |
Next steps
After the physical installation is complete, continue with:
2. Network Configuration for GATEWAY (SIM Setup)
In the configuration manual, you will configure the APN settings, SIM parameters, and network behavior of the internal router.
